Šarplaninac je rasa ovčarskog psa porijeklom sa Šar planine. Registrovan je u FCI 1939. pod rednim brojem #041.
Šarplaninac je velik, snažan i robustan pas. Posjeduje obilno krzno koje je sačinjeno od dva sloja, a boja najčešće varira u nijansama sive, iako su i druge boje dozvoljene (npr. bijela, boja meda itd). Uši su trouglaste i naliježu uz glavu. Rep je mišićav i savija se u vrhu. Prema standardima visina je 54-58 cm za ženke i 56-62 cm za mužjake, a težina 30-40 kg za ženke i 35-45 kg za mužjake Izuzetan je čuvar što je dio njegovog instinkta. Ovaj pas je lojalan porodici u kojoj živi, nepovjerljiv je prema strancima. Vijekovima je korišten kao zaštitnik stada.
